Queen of Hearts XIII
Non-Boffer Competitions
Please note some important changes this year noted in RED. Some tournaments have
specific category requirements that must be followed.
Real Archery Tourney
- A bow will be provided. This will be target shooting with a real
bow and arrows, folks.
Real Knife Throw
- Throwing knives will be provided. This will be target knife throwing.
Strongman
- This competition will involve a number of tests of your strength,
and may involve throwing a shot put, doing pushups and/or carrying
a body. There may be more too, of course!
Running Competition
- You run. A lot. May the best legs win!
Foamsmith
- Each team's entrant for the foam-smith tournament will make a pair
of matched (i.e. IDENTICAL) weapons. They will be used in Champions,
One Man, One Woman and Couples. One WILL be torn apart as part of
the judging process. You should get the other one back. The
weapons should be made before the event, but should be virtually unused
(NEW). Please note: As this year we will be uing categories in each of these
non-combat tourneys, the category for foamsmith is GREAT WEAPONS (6'6" or longer).
Shieldsmith
- Each team's entrant for the shieldsmith tourney will make a boff-safe
shield. The shield may be used in tournies by your team's Champion,
One Man, One Woman and Couples entrants. Your shield will not be destroyed
in the judging process, but we may look under the edge of the foam
to evaluate your construction methods. There are no restrictions on
materials, so long as the shield is safe for use in light weapons
combat. Your shield will be judged on three criteria: art, construction
and usability. The shield faces will be judged as canvases. They do
not have to have your team's heraldry. For construction - we are looking for solid, safe design,
and while we are experienced enough in shieldmaking to spot most innovations,
make sure to point out anything you don't want us to miss. As far
as usability goes, we'll be strapping them on and trying them out.
You can make a lefty or a righty shield, we've got both lefty and
right shieldmen on the marshalling staff, so we can field-test either
one. Please note: As this year we will be uing categories in each of these
non-combat tourneys, the category for shieldsmith is SHIELDS FOR USE IN BRIDGE BATTLES.
Armourer
- Each team's entrant for the armourer tournament will be asked to
make a piece or suit of armour. The armour should be modeled and also
available for inspection at the eventholder's request (probably Sunday
Morning). It must be boff-safe and legal. The armour should be made
before the event, but should be virtually unused (NEW). Please note: As this year we will be uing categories in each of these
non-combat tourneys, the category for armourer is LEG ARMOR.
Artificer
- This tournament will be based around creating props that could be used in a questing event. Points will
be given for quality of workmanship, amount of self-made materials used, and artistic look of content.
Please note: As this year we will be uing categories in each of these
non-combat tourneys, the category for artificer is A BOOK, TOME, or SET OF SCROLLS.
Scavenger
- There will be a quest for items. You'll be given a list, and the
person to return by the appointed time with the most items on the
list will win.
Trapper
- If you are good at trapping wild and exotic creatures, you are invited
to bring the greatest beast you have captured to show off to the people
of the Realms. You will be given an opportunity to tell us the tale
of the hunt. You will also be asked to tell the judge of the competition
(either IC during your story or OOC so the players can find out later)
how the creature "works" in combat. You are expected to provide your
own NPC and to create your own monster costume before the event. The
winner will be determined by quality of costuming for the monster,
the storytelling ability of the trapper, and the understanding of
playability and game balance demonstrated by the way the creature
operates. This year, creatures will be judged
specifically on how well they function in a questing environment.
A one page description of stats and powers
MUST be turned in to the judges with your entry.
Bardic Competition
- Any performance goes except dance, which has its own category.
Dance Competition
- Anything goes... as long as its, you know, dancing.
Artist
- This will be a competition among some of the best artists in the Realms. You may use
any medium you wish, but you must produce a physical object of some kind that is made ahead of time
and brought to the event. The best entrants will fit the theme of the event or the team.
Garb Competition
- Queen of Hearts must be the first event the Garb you are entering
has been to (consideration for garb you made yourself.) Please note: As this year we will be uing categories in each of these
non-combat tourneys, the category for garb is FANCY BALL GARB (think Black & White Ball, but no restriction on those colors).
Best Banner & Heraldry for
True Supporters.
- The judging will only be based on the banner and the True Supporter Heraldry, but please note, some of the judges'
consideration relates to overall prescence on the field and in camp sites, and extra heraldry may help in that aspect.
Best Tenting Site
- The best campsites will have a logical layout, a common meeting
place and other creature comforts that impress the judges. Judging
will take place during dinner break on Saturday evening.
